Car of the Day - Dodge ASC Diamondback Viper
Dodge originally enlisted the help of ASC (American Specialty Cars) in the development of the Viper, so the ASC Diamondback project is a fitting development of the original Viper philosophy of a huge engine in a sportscar just large enough to cope.
ASC have taken an already extreme car and made it more so as a showcase for their OmniCarbon process ( a compression-molding process for carbon-fibre). The Viper has been re-skinned with new carbon-fibre roof, rear deck, rockers, fascia inserts, body trim and hood. The result of this extensive use of carbon fibre is a 85 pound reduction in weight, the carbon hood weighs half that of the production version.
ASC enlisted Mclaren Performance Technologies (no relationship to McLaren England) to develop the already potent V10. The result is a visual treat with the 10 chrome intake trumpets standing proud through the hood.
The result of the weight reduction and engine enhancements is among other things a 0-60 time of 3.5 and a power to weight ration of Power to weight 0.4 bhp / kg.
