Car of the Day - Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Concept.
Chevrolet first launched the new Camaro Coupe Concept back in 2006 and the Pony wars have been heating up ever since. The design of the new rear wheel drive coupe was an undoubted success and naturally a convertible concept followed. Managing to get thorugh the GFC Chev are now looking to put that Concept into production and have recently awarded Magna the convertible contract after the original German company that won the initial contract went into insolvency.
With a planned production run of 20,000 cars in the first year GM are hoping the Camaro Convertible helps turn around the plummeting sales of droptops in America. Chev should be confident as the convertible is a stunning car, perfectly balancing its ponycar heritage with modern design.
Built on the Australian designed global rear wheel drive platform the convertibles running gear will undoubtably remain on par with the current production coupe. A choice of V6 or V8 both with 6-pseed manual or automatic transmission is currently available. Present top of the line configuration is the 6.2L V-8, LS3 engine, with 422 horsepower (315 kW) and 408 lb.-ft. of torque (553 Nm). Which should be enough to provide some spirited open air country driving and open top cruising down Main Street.
