Car of the Day - 2003 1965 Ford Mustang CAMMER

Ford went to its iconic past for a showcase vehicle for the 2003 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show. Taking a classic 1965 Mustang 2+2 Fastback and installing a Ford Racing Performance Parts (FRPP) 5.0-liter Cammer crate engine, Ford created a perfect blend of old and new..

The 5.0-liter, four-valve Cammer crate engine was first introduced to the enthusiast market at the 2002 SEMA Show in an almost equally classic F100. In the 2003 Mustang guise the engine produces 420 horsepower and features a classic downdraft carburetor system with four, two-barrel Webers on custom Ford Racing intake. There is also a custom cold-air induction hood to help funnel fresh air to the Webers

The donor 1965 Mustang was meticulously restored using National Parts Depot Convertible Chassis Components in place of the stock running gear. The beautiful finish is PPG Gloss Black was buffed to a mirror finish. 5.0-liter Cammer badges complete the look. All stock trim in the interior was replaced with a complete National Parts Depot Reproduction 1965 Mustang interior and the SEMA Special gets a set of Rally Pack gauges and a modern A/C system supplied by Vintage Air.

A Heidt’s Double A-Arm front suspension vastly improves handling and a Heavy Duty Tremec five-speed manual transmission transfer power to a Strange-equipped Ford Racing nine-inch Ford rear axle with a 3.75:1 ring and pinion gearset.

The car sits on 15-inch BBS wheels wearing BFGoodrich Radial T/A P205/55-R15’s at front and P235/60-R15s at the rear.
